Item Description
A beautiful 7.04 carat cabachon of gemmy/translucent sea-green cuprian smithsonite from famed Tsumeb. Smithsonite has a hardness of 4 to 4.5, below that of gemstones such as quartz, beryl, topaz, corundum and diamond. A very fine and colorful example for the cut stone collector - this is large, for what it is. Ex Dr. Matthius Mangold Collection and acquired from well-known Namibian dealer Sid Pieters in 1976 when Mangold was an engineer at the mine. Held by him for all these years! We have seen these priced retail at up to $200 per carat, so this could be a bargain for somebody who knows what it is and has a suite to fit it.
