Item Description
Lustrous, sharp, bronzy, pyrite crystals to 5.7 cm have intergrown into a large, dramatic, brain-like specimen from the ancient iron mines at Elba. This is a visually impressive, 360-degree, large specimen. Contacted is noted on the base and on one side, but there is very little actual damage. Choice, old-time, large material from this renowned locale. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. NOTE ADDED TO AUCTION IN CORRECTION: the pyrite is cube-diploid with smaller pyritohedral faces, not cubeoctaheddral. Whover wins it ought to know because this is a very rare and superb expression of the diploid. (COURTESY OF BOB MORGAN, A MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE PYRITE COLLECTOR THAN i, THANKS!)
