Superb in form and appearance, this is the best Cryptomelane we have seen from anywhere but let's just ask, when DO you see any for sale and then, what the heck is it anyways ? : A potassium manganese oxide, the 1-1.5 cm Cryptomelane botryoidal growths are resinous and black, and have an almost satin luster to them. The form, color, and luster create an aesthetic that is so unique. Bottom line, this is simply a terrific but weird miniature. Jack Halpern's collection is made in such a way - even the small stuff is interesting!
