Crocoite (self-collected by Jaye Smith - 1982)

Stout, glassy, translucent, highly lustrous, rich reddish-orange crocoite crystals to 5.2 cm are aesthetically clustered on the very sturdy gossan matrix plate on this very showy and excellent older specimen from the famous Red Lead Mine of Tasmania. This piece has a fine provenance, having been self-collected by Jaye Smith of the well-known The Rocksmiths dealership in 1982. These older, desirable specimens from the Red Lead Mine are much stouter and have sturdier matrix compared to the major recent finds at the nearby Adelaide Mine. Valued at $600-800 today for crystal size, quality and provenance.
