Item Description

Glorious, glassy and lustrous, neon orange-red crocoite prisms, to about 2.8 cm, in a dramatic jackstraw nest fill a sculptural vug in gossan matrix on this very fine combination old-timer from the famous Dundas mineral field of Tasmania. The yellow Gibbsite coating the spherules of white Dundasite needles (Type Locality) lining the vug are a striking contrast and fine accessories to the Crocoite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 883 and acquired in the mid- to late-1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). She passed away in 2020. A classic and excellent old crocoite combination from Dundas.
