Crocoite

Lovely, flat-lying cluster of jackstraw Crocoite crystals from the world's premier Crocoite locality, Dundas. The crystals range from slender to stout, but they all share a vivid, orange-red color and outstanding luster. In fact, the luster is what causes this small cabinet piece to literally jump into view, and this is only enhanced by the chatoyancy of some of the larger cryatals. The way the light enters the crystals and comes back out at you is simply beautiful. The largest crystal is 2.1 cm. Larger, quality crystals like this first came out of Dundas in the 1970's. Very good aesthetics and quality. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
