Item Description

Crinoid specimens from Indiana are world-class and this superb exceptionally detailed, well-preserved, 3-dimensional fossil is very aesthetically set on the small cabinet limestone matrix. Crinoids are marine animals, not plants. They are attached to the bottom by the segmented stalk. The stalk is attached to the 4.5 cm cup-shaped skeleton (calyx) made out of interlocking calcium carbonate plates with the body parts, including the dramatic numerous feeding arms being attached to the calyx. These animals were filter feeders. This exceptional fossil is Mississippian in age, approximately 350 mya. The species is Dizygocrinus indianansis. A very choice fossil from the Art Soregaroli Collection and valued at $400.
