Item Description

Creedite was first discovered near the town of Creede, Colorado, but those crystals are small and without color, and other imortant discoveries of the species have been made outside of Colorado that are much more desirable in terms of size and color. Certainly, purple is the most sought after hue for the species, and if you eliminate minerals like Amethyst and Fluorite, purple is not terribly well-represented in the mineral world. This piece is a beautiful and fine quality Creedite from the lesser-known Hall Molybdenum Mine in Nevada, featuring many very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, medium purple colored crystals measuring up to 7 mm on matrix. Nearly all of the Creedites are undamaged, and there are crystals on both sides of the specimen. Very good quality all around and quite showy. If you collect minerals of the western United States, or you've always been looking for a good Hall Mine Creedite, don't miss out on this one.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
