Creedite (excellent color)

Item Description

Creedite is a calcium aluminum sulfate fluoro hydroxide mineral, often seen in either white/colorless crystals, are rarely purple, but the specimens from the Navidad Mine in Mexico deserve praise for their superb orange color. Additionally, these are without question the largest crystallized examples of the species ever found. This locality is second to none in terms of quality and production on a worldwide scale. This small cabinet sized piece is a fantastic example of this fairly recent material featuring a radial "burst" of beautiful orange colored, "sword"-shaped crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm long. There is only one tiny point of attachment, so the piece is nearly a complete "floater". Great quality all around, with no major damage that I can see with the naked eye. The wonderful and rarely seen orange color does not get the credit it deserves as these specimens might still be too fresh on the market, but one day they will go down as some of the most important specimens found in Mexico in the last few decades for the quantity and quality of the material.
From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
