Item Description

Cowlesite was named in 1975 after John Cowles who was a Zeolite enthusiast and amateur mineralogist from Oregon. This mineral has FOUR co-type localities, two in Oregon, one in Arizona and the other in British Columbia, Canada. This piece is from the locality at Neer Road in Columbia County, Oregon. It features micro radial aggregates of gemmy, white / colorless vitreous Cowlesite nestled into vugs in the exposed basalt matrix. Beautiful to view up close, and we have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A great rarity for any collector or anybody interested in Zeolites. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10444). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
