Item Description

Iridescent, peacock-purple, covellite microcrystals richly cover both side of the matrix sulfide matrix on this showy and excellent CABINET specimen from the famous mines at Rio Tinto, Spain. Yellowish-green sulfur crystals are a very nice and uncommon accent. The piece was recovered in 1996. The Rio Tinto mining district is one of the oldest mining district in the world, having been worked by the Phoenicians! This specimen is illustrated in the MINDAT.org Rio Tinto Mines photo gallery. Ex Tarnowski Collection.
