Item Description

A superb, large covellite specimen in its own right, this also has a bonus: Calcite is relatively rare from the famous Butte mines. A dense "cap" of glassy dogtooth calcite crystals rests atop a striking rosette of iridescent, peacock-blue and magenta covellite plates on quartz-rich matrix. Such combinations in this fine quality are very rare from the famous Leonard Mine. Classic, old-time and rare combination material from the Ecklund Estate sale and the Robert Whitmore Butte Collection # 880. Value of such a rarity to the locality or species collector should be at least the value of the covellite alone, $2000-2500. This is a spectacularly showy Butte specimen and, I would say, a fairly important piece
