Item Description

A rich, showy and colorful, large copper ore specimen from Butte. Parallel-growth covellite plates have nifty, scattered peacock-blue to magenta iridescence and have rich coatings of contrasting malachite. Yellow crusts are widely scattered on both sides and could be hindalsite, a VERY rare phosphate for Butte. It would need to be analysed and could be important to the locality collector. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and obtained in 1974. This is a major display piece for this classic locale! hard to value. 1173 grams (nearly 3 pounds!) in mass.
