Here we have a fantastic old-time display specimen of the now hard to find Covellite specimens from the famous Leonard Mine in Butte, Montana. These specimens represent some of the finest crystallized Covellite from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. This piece is an attractive large miniature / small cabinet specimen loaded with brassy / bronze colored blades of Covellite measuring up to 1.7 cm with a beautiful iridescence on the surface, creating small "rainbow"-like flashes of color. The piece is in good shape, with only minimal roughness to some crystals. A good specimen of this hard to find material. A great piece for any Butte collector, or a sulfide collector. From the collection of Heinz Gugeler. The previous dealer label accompanying the piece puts the value at $750, but in today's market, I would certainly value it higher, in the $1,000-$1,250 range.
