Item Description

When people think of Covellite, one of the first localities (at least in the United States) that comes to mind is Butte, Montana. Most people don't realize however that perhaps the largest and finest Covellites were actually found in Summitville, Colorado. As a matter of fact, if you visit The Colorado School of Mines Museum, they have a Covellite specimen on display with individual crystals that measure approximately 5-6 inches across ! Here we have a nice miniature sized of Covellite featuring classic, bladed crystals with the distinctive iridescent purplish coloring for the species. The piece is not damage free, as it's contacted essentially on all sides, but it's still a decent representation of these well-known Covellites. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
