Item Description

There are only a few localities in the United States that are known for their Covellite specimens. Butte, Montana might be on the top of most collector's lists when it comes to the finest quality Covellites out there, but most people don't realize that perhaps the largest and finest Covellites were actually found in Summitville, Colorado. As a matter of fact, if you visit The Colorado School of Mines Museum, they have a Covellite specimen on display with individual crystals that measure approximately 5-6 inches across ! Here we have a nice "fan"-like specimen of Covellite featuring classic, bladed crystals with the distinctive iridescent golden-blue coloring for the species. The piece is not damage free, but it's still showy and good quality for what it is. The crystals measure up to 2.3 cm and for the size, this is certainly a worthwhile specimen of Covellite from this classic Colorado locality. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
