Item Description

Gorgeous hues of iridescent magenta and peacock-blue dramatically shine forth on both sides of this solid vein section of covellite plates from the famous East Colusa Mine at Butte. Sparkly pyrite is visible within the vein and pyrite and quartz from the host rock is visible on the top and bottom of piece. Old material from active mining. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 226 and acquired in the early 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
