Item Description
Here we have an impressive large crystal of Corundum (var: Sapphire) crystal collected in the late 1990s at this remote locality in California. This single crystal has a purplish-grey hue, but the slight coating of schist on the surface makes it a bit difficult to discern the genuine hue of the piece. The crystal is complete on all sides, and the only damage is on the base of the piece where it presumably was detached from the pocket wall. The piece looks to have a couple of clean repairs, which is common for these pieces. Few enough were found, and they do not turn up often on market today. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
