Item Description

Two striking blue-gray sapphire crystals are dramatically set of the blocky gneiss matrix on this very artistic specimen collected in the late-1990s by the Gochenour brothers at a remote California locality. The hexagonal tapered crystals are moderately lustrous. The impressive large doubly terminated crystal is 10.8 cm long and the embedded crystal is 6.0 cm long. Both crystals have clean repairs, which is common for these pieces. Few enough were found, and they do not turn up often on market today! Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A fine and sculptural large matrix California corundum, as specimens of this quality only come from recycled collections. Reynolds had a flat of these and when e sell them, they are gone...they are not otherwise on the market! Valued $1000
