Corundum var. Sapphire (Bob Reynolds Coll.)

Item Description

An impressive large corundum (sapphire, even if more gray than blue) crystal collected in the late-1990s by the Gochenour brothers at a remote California locality. The striking terminated hexagonal doubly tapered crystal is moderately lustrous and is mottled bluish-gray to brownish. The side car crystal at the base adds character. It looks to have a couple of clean repairs, which is common for these pieces. Few enough were found, and they do not turn up often on market today! Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A fine large California corundum, as specimens of this quality only come from recycled collections.
