Corundum var: Ruby with Muscovite var: Fuchsite

Item Description

A now hard to find Ruby specimen from this fairly well-known locality in Vietnam, which started producing specimens in the late 1990s, but very little has come out in recent years. This piece is filled with dozens of sharp, lustrous, rich pinkish-purple hexagonal crystals of Ruby, and they are associated with muted green Fuchsite (a variety of Muscovite mica) for a nice contrast of color. Very little damage and it's quite showy. It's not easy to get small cabinet sized matrix display specimens from this locality, and this one really looks great in person. The largest Ruby measures 1.2 cm long, and the show strong red fluorescence under UV light. From the collection of Sean Lincoln.
