Item Description

Rubies are not only familiar to most people around the world, but they are famous stones, documented for thousands of years throughout history. With that said, most people don't have great Ruby specimens in their collections. This is due to the fact that there aren't a lot of localities globally that produce fine Ruby crystals. I have to believe that most people are probably familiar with the historic Ruby-producing locality at Mogok, Myanmar, which has been a source of some of the finest examples of the material, but the lesser known Sivec Mountain locality in North Macedonia was mined for its beautiful white marble as far back as 500 BCE. I'm sure the occasional Ruby crystal was found, even back then, but they are notably rare on the market. This piece features a fine quality, well-formed, purplish-pink hexagonal crystal of Ruby with a smooth, well-formed, euhedral faces sitting on a small amount of marble matrix, with one little accenting Ruby crystal on the edge. The piece is fluorescent under both SW and LW UV light, but the fluorescence is better under LW showing pink and orange hues. If you collect gem minerals, or you're a fan of Ruby in general, this is not something you will find on the market very often, so be sure to pick this one up for your collection. Valued $1,800.
