A fantastic cabinet sized matrix display piece of these old classic Ruby specimens from the Kleggåsen Ruby Quarry in Norway. This specimen fine, sharp, lustrous rich purplish-red colored striated crystals, some of which are show defined hexagonal faces sitting in Syenite matrix. The largest crystal measures 1.3 cm across. The Rubies show a bright red fluorescence under LW UV light. You rarely seen these on the market anymore, and a piece like this would make a very worthwhile addition to any suite of gem crystal specimens, or old time European classics. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. The piece comes with a label from Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut and dates back to December 27, 1982, but could have been mined decades earlier. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
