Item Description

An interesting and unusual Ruby specimen from Winza, Tanzania featuring a predominant, sharp, well-formed, trigonal crystal which is attached to a notably etched section of Ruby on the other side of the piece. The dichotomy and contrast between the smooth, euhedral crystal and the porous "sponge"-like group is remarkable, and I can't remember seeing another like it. Winza for several years at this point has been producing some excellent and beautiful Corundum crystals, which range from blue (Sapphire) to pink/red (Ruby) in color. When the crystal on this specimen is backlit, it really glows with a vivid pink hue showing more saturated reddish tones in areas. If you collect gem crystals, Rubies or you just like minerals of Tanzania, this is an compelling piece and you're not likely to find another like it from this locality. The piece shows strong red flourescence under SW UV light. Specimen weight is 24.9 grams. Valued $1,800.
