Item Description
A highly unusual and large corundum (ruby) combination from North Carolina, possibly from the Belts Bridge Corundum occurrence, Iredell Co. The broken base reveals a fairly large, euhedral, translucent and lustrous, rose-pink ruby crystal, that is mostly encased in a thick sheath of pearlescent, brown margarite plates, a rare Mica Group varietal. Probably older material, but no proof. Not pretty to look at, but is still a significant large North Carolina rarity. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection.
