Item Description
Mineral specimens of any type are RARE from this obscure Ontario locality in an unusual syenite pegmatite (syenite is a a coarse-grained intrusive igneous rock with a general composition similar to that of granite, but deficient in quartz). A 6.8 cm, hexagonal, lustrous, tapered, layered, brownish-gray corundum crystal is aesthetically set in the blocky flesh-pink feldspar matrix with some dark mafic minerals and platy muscovite. Rare older material, probably dating to the mid-1960s, from the Kay Robertson Collection # 11530. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
