Item Description
This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that simply states the piece is from Idaho. A 1.8 cm, beautifully crystallized, very sharp, hexagonal crystal of blue colored Corundum (Sapphire) sits beautifully on Calcite and schist matrix to create a great display specimen. Virtually undamaged, and really attractive. A great old time specimen from this noteworthy collection. It's hard to determine the value for an aesthetic display specimen of a well-known species from an obscure locality, so don't miss out on a chance to pick up this piece as we do not have another.
