Item Description
An old classic: Rare, older specimen of teal-blue Cornetite from the TYPE LOCALITY - the well-known Star of the Congo Mine. Exceptional examples of this uncommon copper sulfate show a distinct 'starburst' pattern created by radial growth, but here radial pattern on the 1-3 mm crystals is moderately developed. What IS interesting and unusual is the orthogonal habit to many of the crystals. In my experience, the Cornetites typically have an overall round habit, so this variation adds an unexpected twist to this small-cabinet piece. The attractive, teal-blue color nicely complements the sandstone matrix, and the small amount of Chrysocolla and Malachite related to the Cornetite add dashes of color and interest to the specimen. Representative for this mine, and then some.
