Item Description
Cornetite is a rare secondary copper silicate found in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. It is best-known today in specimens from Africa. This is a dramatic, really rich and large specimen for this material and is from a small New Find at the famous Star of Congo Mine. A thin crust of super-sparkly, teal-blue Cornetite, in botryoidal form, covers pretty chrysocolla lining a large vug in gossan matrix. Contacting and periphery wear are noted, but this remains a rare, highly desirable and CABINET combination specimen with this uncommon species. We were only able to obtain a couple of pieces of this rare material, of which this is the last of the mid-2009 find we purchased. NOTE BY MISTAKE AND CARELESS THINKING, SOMEHOW THIS WAS LABELLED AS SHATTUCKITE COMING INTO OUR WRITEUP SECTION AND WHILE THE WRITEUP HERE STILL APPLIES AS CORNETITE (BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT WE WERE THINKING OF, DESPITE THE MISNOMER), IT WAS MISLABELLED AS POSTED ON SUNDAY. IT IS, CORNETITE, NO QUESTION.
