Cordierite (old classic)

Item Description

This is a fairly hard to find old-time classic specimen of Cordierite from the Bamble area (Bamble Sector) in Norway. The piece hosts a good coverage of gemmy/translucent, crystalline Cordierite on the front and back of the underlying matrix. The color is a blue-purple hue, though a bit of pleochroism can be seen when the piece is rotated in the light, as the Cordierite shows more of a pale silvery hue in one direction when backlit. These are honestly rare, especially in such rich examples as this. The piece is not from a contemporary discovery, but was rather found decades ago.
The piece comes from the collection of Colin Manlove, and has a wonderful old hand-written label from the collection of Dr. Harry von Eckermanns.
