Coral along with other organic substances such as Bone, Pearl and Amber is one of the few gems that originates from a living organism. Here we have a lovely example from the Mediterranean Sea (off the coast of Italy). These stones are cut and polished to bring out their eye-catching color as they often have a very dull matte luster when they are found. This "Marquise" cabochon cut gem is a light creamy orange color stone with excellent consistency of color. Please note that this stone has most likely been stabilized to help maintain its glowing warm hue, which is a common and completely accepted practice in the gem world. A beautiful stone for any collector.
