Item Description
There are a few organic materials in the world that are commonly seen in the gem/jewelry trade. I think the top three that most people think of are pearls, amber and coral. We know that Coral jewelry has been found in prehistoric European burial sites, along with ancient Egyptian tombs. There are over 30 species of Red Coral worldwide, but the most common Corallium rubrum species is what is most often used for gems. They get their color from carotenoids, the same organic pigments that creates the orange color in carrots. This stone is a beautiful "Oval Cabochon" cut stone with a vibrant reddish-orange hue and a lovely polish on the surface.
