Item Description
Coquimbite is a hydrate iron aluminum sulfate species, that was named in the 1840s after the Coquimbo Province in Chile where it was first discovered. The species is rarely found in fine crystallized examples, but a discovery circa 2009 produced what are certainly some of, if not THE finest Coquimbites in history. This piece is an excellent display quality specimen of this rare material featuring several well-formed hexagonal prism of gorgeous purple colored Coquimbite measuring up to 1.7 cm at their widest dimension, sitting atop silvery-grey colored Krausite. White Alunogen and yellow Copiapite are also present on the piece. The Coquimbites are in superb condition, with no major damage and they are aesthetically sitting atop the specimen for optimum displayability. The size, quality and color of the crystals is fantastic for the species, and after the initial discovery, they quickly disappeared, so if you missed out on them when they first hit the market, don't pass up the chance to get a really good one for your collection.
PLEASE NOTE: This material cannot be exposed to moisture and especially to be in direct contact with water, the crystals will dissolve if they are exposed to moisture, so it's important that the piece is stored in as dry of conditions as possible.
