Copper with Malachite (historic classic)

Sculptural and aesthetic old-time two-sided small cabinet copper from this historic silver, copper and polymetallic mining area in Hungary. The curved arborescent floater specimen is composed of artistically stacked spinel-twinned and rounded spinel-twinned copper crystals. Green malachite and iron oxides preferentially coat the copper, adding color and contrast to both sides. See the 2001 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 32, No. 2. Copper is probably the best known species from Rudabanya and this is a classic, excellent and seldom seen old-time specimen. We had not had many coppers from here, as opposed to copper minerals, so it might be quite rare to see large native coppers from this historic locale, as it seems.
