This is a robust, HEAVY Michigan copper that is 3-dimensional and dramatic. Hefty copper at 3.5 pounds or 1.6 kilos! The patina on the sharp crystals is exemplary, ranging from a very rich coppery tone to striking, bright golden-coppery. The tetrahexahdral copper crystals range up to a robust 3.7 cm and there are more smaller copper in calcite crystals scattered about. The copper in this impressive, amoeboid-shaped specimen is further accented with green chlorite-included quartz and possibly analcime. A classic, 2.3 cm, glassy, doubly terminated, copper in calcite scalenohedron is partially hidden in a crevasse. Yet another 2.5 cm compound calcite crystal is hidden on a side. It was worth his price AS A COPPER...the calcites are simply a bonus! The sculptural form, super patina, large crystals and of course, the copper in calcite crystals make this an outstanding and desirable old-time large Copper Country specimen. Ex Sal Avella Collection, and valued by him at $4000 (on the back of his original label, included) in his collection pricing. Specimens of this size and quality are usually reserved for private sales to copper collectors, but we want our auction customers have a chance at obtaining a significant large copper, and are taking some risk in putting it out here. It is worth his price, and a steal at half that.
