Item Description

A classic example of the elusive Copper specimen from the Cashin Mine in southwestern Colorado. This locality dates back to the late 1890s, and produced nearly two million pounds of Copper during its lifetime, though specimens are fairly obscure on the market. The specimens are rarely crystallized (mostly crystalline) and this piece is a good example of said material featuring a three-dimensional group of Copper with beautiful accenting spots of blue Azurite, green Malachite, and a bit of reddish Cuprite in areas. When I look closely at the Azurite, it doesn't all look like Azurite to my eye, and it's very possible that there could be some Linarite or possibly Cornetite on the piece, but it would need to be analyzed to be certain. A great piece for a native element collector, a Colorado collector or somebody who likes minerals from the United States. It's showy because it's not just a "lump" like several I've seen from the locality. From the collection of Richard Kosnar, the well-known collector and dealer from Colorado, who was the namesake for the rare phosphate mineral Kosnarite.
