Item Description

There are many trap rock quarries in northern New Jersey, but they are typically thought of as producing zeolites and associated minerals (e.g., Prehnite and Apophyllite), but native elements are notably rare. The famed Chimney Rock Quarry for many years has produced some excellent examples of Native Copper, which are among the best examples of crystallized Copper from any US locality. This piece was from a find in the 1990s, and is a lovely large miniature sized display piece featuring fairly sharp, well-formed crystals with a nice patina on the surface. There is a slight pinkish and yellow iridescence on the surface from oxidation, giving the piece a bit of extra color. A good piece for any fan of US minerals, Coppers or specimens from New Jersey.
Ex Brian Kosnar specimen with a label from Jay Baskin.
