Item Description

This is a rarity in the mineral world where a native element has formed a pseudomorph after a species from which it is derived. Cuprite forms from the oxidation of copper (typically copper-bearing sulfide minerals), but to have a second generation of copper deposited over the already altered copper minerals is very unusual. This complete "floater" miniature specimen features a few crystals of what were octahedral cuprite that have been complete transformed into native copper in the form of hundreds of small sharp crystals which are covering every face. The piece is complete all around. A truly eye-catching and impressive example of this now contemporary material from Rubtsovskoe that is fast disappearing from the market. Priced at $1,000 in the inventory.
