Item Description
This is a very impressive, large and fine quality example of the famous pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite from Corocoro, Bolivia. These pieces are famous for their uniqueness, as there isn't another world locality that produces Copper pseudomorphs after Aragonite. Most of these specimens are complete "floater" with no point of attachment, and are well-known from Bolivia for their great form and color. This piece has the classic and pseudohexagonal form (it's actually an orthorhombic cyclic twin) that has made these pieces some of the most highly sought after pseudomorphs around, but the most impressive aspect of the specimen is the size ! Specimens of this size (over 3 cm) are rarely seen from this locality. Typically, when the specimens reach such a large size, they tend to be rather distorted and rounded, and this piece has notably sharp and well-defined faces. Additionally, there is a light coating of secondary copper minerals on the piece, including nint-green Malachite, blue-green, Chrysocolla, reddish-brown Cuprite and bright blue Connellite. Lastly, the piece is not a single pseudomorph, as there are a few smaller crystals flaring off of various side, which is only seen in a small percentage of the pseudomorphs from Corocoro. Take my word for it, this specimen is a fine example of this material, for the size, quality and multiple species associated. There has not been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 25 years, and they are often only found in old collections. I was told that this locality was purchased several years ago by a Korean mining company, with the intent of mining all the pseudomorphs and melting them down for their copper content, destroying countless specimens. Get this piece while you can, because it's possible we may never seen them again.
