Item Description
Here is a wonderful specimen of the famous pseudomorphs of copper after AZURITE. These floater specimens are well known from this small and otherwise unremarkable deposit for their great form and shape, the unusual replacement. And, this piece has the classic and unique rosette form that has made these pieces some of the most well known and highly sought after pseudomorphs around when they came out in the early to mid 1900s. TODAY THEY ARE ALMOST UNHEARD OF ON THE MARKET. This specimen is an outstanding example of this material, and is rather large compared to over 95% of the specimens I have seen from this area. The pretty malachite/oxidization patina really adds pizzazz. There hasn't been any significant amount of these specimens on the market in approximately 40 years, and they are only found in old collections. Valued at $750-1000 retail. A worthwhile specimen, for anybody interested in this unique material, or in coppers or the Southwest generally. Ex Howard Belsky Collection.
