Copper included in Calcite (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

While we've all seen stellar Copper specimens from Michigan, it's not easy to find good quality crystallized Calcites associated with Copper. This miniature sized specimen features a fine, sharp, translucent to gemmy, lustrous, copper-tinted Calcite scalenohedron measuring 3.7 cm long sitting on a matrix associated with additional smaller Native Copper "flanges" and Calcite crystals. This was probably collected between 70-100 years ago. I love the fact that the metallic rosy-pinkish color of the Copper inclusions can be seen floating inside the Calcite, which is a nice contrast against the aged Copper on the exterior of the specimen with their beautiful antique patina. For the most part, the piece is in good shape, although the termination of the Calcite is contacted. Beautiful, classic and fairly uncommon on the market nowadays. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
