Item Description

Bright copper, as a striking large phantom, is clearly evident in this significant large calcite crystal from the famous Franklin Mine of Copper Country. The very glassy transparent complex calcite crystal has impressive striated faces and the bit of protruding copper adds pizzazz. Complete all-around with every turn offering a different perspective. Unfortunately, the termination is dinged (and moderated with a bit of acid to smooth it off), otherwise this piece would easily be $6000-8000. This excellent old-timer has a fine provenance, having been in the E.F. Holden Collection, a very prominent mining engineer and mine owner. He donated his significant mineral collection to Harvard in 1911, which included the world-famous large rope gold from the Ground Hog Mine of Colorado. The Gerstmann label dates to the 1960s or 70s. Here's your chance to get a rich and highly representative large copper in calcite at a good price point.
