Copper in Blue Opal

Typically the word "inclusion" can be a deterrent when it comes to gems, but there's an entire subcategory of gemstones where the inclusion is what makes the stone interesting. This "Oval Cabochon" cut gem features attractive, dark reddish-black "veins" of Native Copper which are included in Blue Opal. In my experience, it's rare to find native elements inside of gems, and to have such stark well-defined inclusions like this running through the Opal is unique and special. I can certainly say that I haven't seen anything like these before. Not only are they beautiful, but the material is durable, so you can put a gem like this into a ring or a pendant. The blue color of the Opal comes directly from Copper content. A really attractive stone from a new discovery in 2022.
