Item Description
A classic specimen of the famous Copper from the Cashin Mine in southwestern Colorado. This locality dates back to the late 1890s, and produced nearly two million pounds of Copper during its lifetime, though specimens are fairly obscure on the market. The specimens are rarely crystallized (mostly crystalline) but this piece is a very good example of said material featuring a predominant group of well-formed Copper, aesthetically flaring off the Kaolinite matrix. Minor blue color Chrysocolla(?) can be seen on the piece as well. The piece has a fine antique patina and good form. It's not just a "lump" like several I've seen from the locality, and good aesthetic Coppers from this mine are RARE on the market! A great piece for a native element collector, a Colorado collector or somebody who likes minerals from the United States. From the collection of Richard A. Kosnar (1946-2007), the well-known mineral dealer and collector from Colorado, who was also the namesake for the phosphate mineral Kosnarite. Rich acquired this piece from this longtime friend Hal Miller, who among other things was Rich's co-author for the first Colorado issue of the Mineralogical Record in 1976. Hal's hand-written label accompanies the specimen.
