Item Description

A classic Copper specimen from Keweenaw County, Michigan featuring an aesthetic group of crystals in an eye-catching formation. The crystals are mostly dodecahedral in habit, but I can see some slight octahedral modifications. The surface has been etched, creating some slightly hollow areas for a nice touch. The piece is crystallized on all sides and displays beautifully as you can see. Michigan Coppers are among the finest crystallized examples of the species in the world, and considering that the majority of them were mined before the turn of the 20th century, they are highly desirable and sought after by collectors. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
