Item Description

A fantastic full-sized cabinet display specimen featuring a mixture of defined crystallized Copper and eye-catching "leaf"-like formations, free of matrix. This showy and aesthetic specimen is sculptural, three-dimensional and detailed, with multiple display angles. It's essentially a complete "floater" with no damage, nor any point of attachment. The Ray Mine is well-known for its excellent crystallized Copper specimens, and a piece like this is certainly a desirable example in a desirable size. This mine is one of the oldest copper deposits in Arizona, as it was discovered in 1846 (almost 70 years before Arizona was a state!) and according to the entry on mindat.org, the estimates in 1998 suggest there were 862,747,000 metric tons of ore remaining! The Ray Mine has produced some iconic specimens over its lifetime, and these iconic Coppers are certainly in upper tiers in terms of size, quality and appreciation among collectors. Specimen weight is 385.6 grams.
Former Les Presmyk specimen, valued $3,500.
