Item Description
Corocoro is famous as being the source of the only pseudomorphs of Copper after Aragonite in the world, and while people are familiar these specimens, it's actually quite rare to find non-pseudomorphic, crystalline native Copper like this. This cabinet display specimen is a layered "sheet" of crudely crystalline Copper free of matrix. These pieces started to trickle out around October of 2009 and this piece is one of the best samples of this material that I have handled for aesthetics, quality and displayability from that period of mining. It's not easy to get your hands on a good display specimen of Bolivian Coppers like this, and I was told a few years ago that the locality was purchased by a Korean mining company strictly for the purpose of extracting and melting down all the Copper, so collecting and obtaining specimens will become very difficult in the future.
