Item Description
The famous Central Mine is well-known for outstanding crystallized copper specimens. Rounded solid copper amygdules, such as these two exeptional specimens are VERY RARE. Amygdules form when the gas bubbles or vesicles in volcanic lava (or other extrusive igneous rocks) are infilled with a secondary mineral such as calcite, quartz, chlorite or one of the zeolites (Wikipedia). In this case, RARE copper! The Central Mine closed in 1898, but the dumps still produce fine specimens periodically. These are not just little pebbles, as they look in the photos...as picking them up you see the heft is 60 grams (near to two ounces)!
