Item Description
The Cape D'Or area in Nova Scotia has produced some very beautiful and aesthetic Copper specimens, some of which are reminiscent of those from the Dzhezkazgan and Itauz Mines in Kazakhstan. "The prominent cliffs of the cape are Triassic age basalts. Several separate lava flows occurred, and there is evidence that some erosion occurred between flows. At least six separate flows can be counted at Cape D'Or. Although small amounts of copper have been found in the basalts at various localities around the Bay of Fundy, in the area around Cape D'Or the concentration is highest. Even so, the amount of copper can only be considered a tiny amount when compared to the famous Michigan copper region, where huge chunks of copper up to several hundred tons were found" - http://nsminerals.atspace.com/CapeD%27Or.html This piece is an attractive toenail specimen featuring branching and arborescent growths of crystalline Copper on matrix. The oxidation / iridescence makes for a nice touch. If you've ever wanted one of these lesser known Coppers, now is a great chance to pick one up.
