Item Description
Sculptural, flattened, two-sided, floater, small cabinet copper specimen from the famous and extinct open-pit copper mine at Ajo. The dendritic piece with fine variable patina, fairly sharp tetrahexahedral and spinel-twinned crystals and anhedral copper has a definite biomorphic aspect. The prancing, cartoon-like animal (horse-like) has an uplifted head with a sharp snout above the long neck, body and multiple legs. Ex John Whatley Collection and acquired in 1969. John was a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). Comes with a label from well-known Arizona mineralogist, author, collector and dealer Dick Bideaux, who passed away in 2004. Classic, aesthetic copper from Ajo.
